Common Questions and Comments

Some of our members have received phone calls from nurses representing Blue Cross to set up an appointment at your house. Louisiana Blue partners with two companies, eleHealth Care Connect and Signify Health, to provide in-person and virtual health visits for members enrolled in our Medicare Advantage and ACA plans.

Here is more information about some questions you may have about these virtual health visits.

A nurse saying she represents Louisiana Blue is reaching out to me to set up an appointment at my house. Is this a scam?

  • It's understandable why you might be cautious. The call is probably legitimate.
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana contracts with a couple of companies to provide our members with no-cost, in-home or virtual health visits with a licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
  • The companies include eleHealth Care Connect and Signify Health.
  • Participation is optional. You may decline if you’re not interested.

Why are they calling me?

  • The nurses are reaching out to eligible members like you to offer a convenient in-home or virtual health visit. These visits focus on preventive care, health education, wellness support and helping you stay connected to your healthcare providers.
  • The visit may include a review of medications, medical history and current health concerns.
  • You may receive preventive screenings, health education and referrals to additional resources when appropriate.
  • A summary of the visit can be shared with your primary care provider.

Why should I agree to this?

  • Think of it as a convenient health check-in that's included with your health plan benefits. A licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant can meet with you in your home or by video, review your health concerns and medications, help identify preventive care needs and connect you with resources that can help you stay healthier.
    • Convenience: The visit can take place in your home or by telehealth, eliminating travel and waiting rooms.
    • A personalized review: The clinician takes time to review your medical history, medications and any health concerns you may have.
    • Preventive care support: The visit may identify screenings, follow-up care or other preventive services that could benefit you.
    • Health education: You'll receive information and guidance to help you better understand and manage your health.
    • Coordination with your doctor: A summary of the visit can be shared with your primary care provider to help keep everyone informed and working together on your care.
    • No additional cost: The service is offered to eligible members as part of their health plan benefits.

The nurses are too pushy.

  • The intent is simply to make sure eligible members are aware of the health benefit available to them. We understand that some members may not be interested, and we want all outreach to be respectful and professional.
  • If you would like to stop receiving phone calls from eleHealth Care Connect or Signify Health, just let the nurse know that you want to be removed from the call list. If you would like to stop receiving calls from Louisiana Blue, you can update your communication preferences in MyLABlue or call Customer Service at the number on the back of your ID card.
  • Please note that opting out of Louisiana Blue calls will remove you from all Louisiana Blue phone outreach, including important health and care reminders.
  • Every text or email should contain an opt-out method. If you no longer wish to receive these communications, simply follow the process outlined in the communications.

What happens during the visit?

  • During the visit, a licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant reviews your medical history, medications and health concerns, performs a health assessment and provides health education and preventive care recommendations.

I already have a doctor.

  • The healthcare providers conducting these visits do not replace your primary care provider. The program is designed to complement the care you're already receiving and help keep your provider informed.
  • The service supports, rather than replaces, your relationship with your doctor.

Why would an insurance company send a nurse to my house to collect information about my health? How will they use this information? Could it be used against me?

  • The purpose of the visit is to support your health, identify opportunities for preventive care and help connect you with healthcare resources. The visit is not used to determine whether you can keep your health coverage.

What’s in it for my health plan?

  • That's a fair question. Health plans invest in programs like this because they want their members to stay as healthy as possible.
  • Preventive care, early identification of health concerns and better coordination between members and their healthcare providers can help improve health outcomes. Programs like these are designed to help members get the care and support they need before health issues become more serious.
